A Cycle of Life
Students
are learning various parts of a seed as they watch it germinate in a
minisprouter. Getting its food from the stored sugar in its cotyledon is how
the young seed survives. As the seedling grows the students illustrate and
label a diagram of its stages of life in their flipbook. The students learn now
that the young seedling no longer receives its food from the cotyledon it will
now produce its own food through photosynthesis. They continue to watch the
seed grow and develop into a fruit bearing plant. Hence, starting over again
once they observe what is inside the fruit—a seed. The cycle of life begins
again!
